About program
According to Immigration Canada, cities with a population of 50,000 or less, or located at least 75 kilometers from the metropolis with 100,000 or more, and cities with a population of up to 200,000, if they qualify, can participate in the program.
Like the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIPP), the new Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot will run in parallel with the Provincial Nominee Program. The AIPP allows employers in the Atlantic provinces of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island to hire foreigners for their businesses if they are unable to fill vacancies with local workers. In 2018, through the AIPP, a residence permit was issued for 2,500 foreign workers and students. The Ministry of Immigration has not yet specified the quota for the new program.
