Applying for a visa to Romania – full guide

Romania, with a rich history and deep roots, attracts millions annually for work, education, and tourism. As an EU member, visiting may require an initial visa (travel permit) application. Depending on nationality and purpose, specific visa types apply. However, biometric visas permit EEA, Switzerland, and other nationals to stay visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days. Romanian visas allow both single and multiple entries for a maximum of 90 days. The number of days shown on your permit cannot, however, be exceeded throughout the maximum duration of your stay.

It is significant to highlight that the National Visa Center, a specific division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, handles applications for Romanian visas from residents of particular countries.

Visa processing time

Submit a short-stay permit application a minimum of two weeks before the intended departure. For long-stay visas, apply at least 45 days before the anticipated departure. Applying just days before departure does not guarantee visa issuance.
